Debit card
The fastest mobile deposit method. Visa and Mastercard debit cards work; some issuing banks block gambling transactions even from legal operators (Chase has historically been finicky). If your debit card declines:
- Try a different debit card from another bank
- Call your bank and ask them to authorize "gambling merchant" transactions for Rhode Island Lottery / IGT
- Switch to PayPal or ACH
Credit cards are not accepted under RI law.
ACH (VIP Preferred)
Direct bank transfer through the VIP Preferred network. You’ll be asked to log into your bank via Plaid (instant verification) or enter routing and account numbers manually. Deposits typically appear in your Sportsbook RI balance instantly but may not actually clear from your bank for 1–3 business days.
If you withdraw money you deposited via ACH within 72 hours, the withdrawal may be held until the deposit fully clears — this is a fraud-prevention measure.
PayPal
The most reliable method for mobile bettors. Link your PayPal account in the Sportsbook RI app, authenticate, and you can deposit instantly with no card-issuer friction. Withdrawals to PayPal are also fast (often same day).
Play+ prepaid card
A reloadable prepaid card specifically designed for legal sports betting. Sportsbook RI’s Play+ card can be funded from a bank account, debit card, or even cash at participating retailers. Deposits from Play+ to Sportsbook RI are instant and rarely decline. See the full Play+ breakdown.
Cash at retail
You can fund your mobile account by walking up to the cashier cage at Bally’s Twin River or Bally’s Tiverton with cash. The cashier scans your Sportsbook RI account and the money appears immediately. No fees. Useful when card methods fail or for larger deposits.
Deposit fees
Sportsbook RI charges no deposit fees. Your bank or card issuer may treat a deposit as a cash advance (rare but possible), in which case their fee applies. Always check your statement after the first deposit on a new card.
When a deposit fails
The three most common causes:
- Issuer block. Your bank declined the transaction. Call them, or use a different method.
- Geolocation failure. You’re not inside RI. The app will reject the deposit attempt before reaching your bank.
- Insufficient funds. Obvious but common.
If you see an error code, contact Sportsbook RI support — they can usually tell you whether the block came from their end or your bank’s.
