What is Sportsbook RI?

Sportsbook RI is the brand name for Rhode Island’s state-monopoly sports wagering platform. Unlike most US states, where private operators compete for licenses, Rhode Island runs sports betting itself through the Rhode Island Lottery. The Lottery contracts IGT for the technology stack and Bally’s Corporation for hosting at its two casinos.

This single-operator model exists for one reason: revenue. The state captures 51% of gross gaming revenue (GGR) — tied with New Hampshire, New York, and Oregon as the highest sports-betting tax rate in the US. Bally’s takes another 17% as host facility, leaving just 32% for the sportsbook operator.

How to access it

You can place legal bets in two ways:

Geolocation verifies your physical location for mobile bets. You do not need to be a RI resident — just physically present.

Deposits & withdrawals

The mobile app supports debit cards, ACH bank transfer, PayPal, and Play+. Minimum deposit is $10. Withdrawals typically clear in 24–72 hours depending on method. Retail bets can be placed and cashed out in cash at the casino windows or self-service kiosks.

App quality

The Sportsbook RI app, built on legacy IGT/William Hill technology, has historically scored lower than commercial competitors like DraftKings and FanDuel — currently around 3.8 stars across iOS and Android. A 2025 Spectrum Gaming Group report flagged the user experience gap as a primary reason RI bettors cross into Massachusetts to bet through the seven operators available there.

Markets offered

All major US and international sports are covered: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MMA, soccer, golf, and tennis. Rhode Island uniquely prohibits betting on in-state college teams (URI Rams, Providence Friars), even during March Madness. Out-of-state college betting is fully permitted. See the college betting ban for details.

The 2026 outlook

Sportsbook RI’s monopoly is set to end. The Senate passed SB 748 in June 2025 to open the market to 3–5 competing operators starting in early 2026. DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Bally’s itself are expected to bid. The Rhode Island Lottery aims to award at least one new license by November 2026. See the 2026 expansion guide for details.
