Player & Team Prop Bets

‘Proposition’ bets — props — are wagers on specific in-game outcomes that aren’t tied to the final score. They cover everything from a star player’s points total to whether the coin toss lands heads.

Two main categories

Props split into:

  • Player props — performance of a specific player (Jayson Tatum over 26.5 points)
  • Team props — performance of a team (Patriots first to score, Celtics race to 20)

There are also game props that don’t fit either bucket — opening coin toss, length of national anthem, halftime show props on Super Bowl Sunday.

Most popular prop markets

  • NFL: anytime touchdown scorer, QB passing yards, RB rushing yards, longest TD pass
  • NBA: player points, rebounds, assists, threes, blocks, steals, PRA combos (points + rebounds + assists)
  • MLB: player hits, total bases, home runs, pitcher strikeouts
  • NHL: player goals, assists, shots on goal, points

Why props are softer

Sportsbook RI sets thousands of prop lines per week — often algorithmically. Unlike the moneyline (where the public bets heavily and the line gets sharpened), prop lines move less. A diligent bettor who studies player usage, pace, defensive matchups, and recent role changes can find lines that mispriced the situation.

This is why limits on props are lower than on game lines — sportsbooks know they can’t price them as tightly, so they cap the maximum stake.

Bet-limit reality

Standard player props at Sportsbook RI typically cap around $500–$1,000 per ticket (versus $5,000+ on a game spread). If you consistently win on props, expect bet limits and account reviews. This is industry-wide, not specific to RI.

The anytime TD scorer market

The single most popular prop in the NFL: which players will score a touchdown at any point in the game? Pricing is straightforward — RB1s on bad offenses might be +120, while goal-line specialists are +200, and skill-position players on the opposing team’s bad-defense side go +180. Anytime TD legs are common in SGPs.

Strategy: usage over name recognition

The biggest mistake recreational bettors make is taking overs on famous players regardless of role. Jayson Tatum’s points-over isn’t a value play if the Celtics are favored by 20 and he sits the fourth quarter. Look at minutes projections, blowout risk, and recent usage trends. Sportsbook RI lines often lag a usage shift by a game or two.
