The Sportsbook RI Mobile App

The Sportsbook RI app is the only legal sports betting app in Rhode Island. It’s available on iOS and Android, requires 21+ age verification, and uses geolocation to confirm you’re physically inside RI state lines.

How to download

  • iOS: search "Sportsbook Rhode Island" in the App Store. Available to anyone with a US App Store account, but the app only functions inside RI.
  • Android: the app is available in the Google Play Store. (Older versions of the app required a direct APK download from sportsbookri.com — no longer the case.)

The app is published by the Rhode Island Lottery / IGT. If you see any other listing claiming to be Sportsbook RI, it’s a scam.

Registration

Account setup requires:

  • Legal name and date of birth (must be 21+)
  • Social Security number (last 4 digits at minimum for KYC verification)
  • US address
  • Government-issued photo ID upload — driver’s license or passport
  • Selfie verification on some accounts

Verification is usually automatic within minutes but can take up to 24 hours if KYC flags require manual review. You can browse odds without finishing verification but cannot deposit or bet.

Geolocation — how it works

Every bet attempt triggers a geolocation check via GeoComply, the industry-standard provider. The app uses GPS, Wi-Fi triangulation, and IP geolocation to confirm you’re inside Rhode Island. Common geolocation issues:

  • VPN active — must be disabled. The app will block any connection routed through a VPN even if you’re physically in RI.
  • Indoor GPS weak — try moving near a window or stepping outside briefly.
  • Border zones — close to Massachusetts or Connecticut, GPS sometimes places you across the line. Try again after moving deeper into RI.
  • GeoComply plugin out of date — desktop browser sometimes needs an update before placing bets.

App store ratings

The Sportsbook RI app currently scores around 3.8 stars across iOS and Android — meaningfully below DraftKings (~4.7) and FanDuel (~4.8). The app is built on legacy IGT/William Hill technology and shows its age in:

  • Slower bet-slip refreshing during peak NFL Sunday hours
  • Limited same-game parlay builder vs commercial competitors
  • Older UI patterns and navigation
  • Fewer promo-driven features

This UX gap is one of the main reasons cited in the 2026 market expansion bill (SB 748) for opening RI to commercial operators.

Known issues

  • Push notifications can be unreliable on Android 13+; check your bet status in-app rather than relying on notifications.
  • Live betting latency is noticeably longer than DraftKings — expect 10–15 second delays.
  • Withdrawal speed via ACH is 3–5 business days; PayPal and Play+ are faster.
  • App size updates are large (200MB+); use Wi-Fi.

Tips for getting the most out of the app

  1. Enable Face ID / fingerprint login under Settings → Security. Speeds up access.
  2. Pre-load your bet slip before kickoff. Live betting suspends during peak action — pre-game lines move less.
  3. Set deposit limits under Account → Responsible Gaming. Useful guardrail.
  4. Use the in-app live odds boards rather than the bet-type filter; faster on older phones.
